Dr. John D'Arcy O'Donnell

A family physician, Dr. John D'Arcy was the first medical practitioner appointed to an Australian newsroom. With more than thirty years broadcasting experience he is Australia's most well recognised doctor.
Throughout his media career he has translated complex medical information for Australian audiences across all forms of media. His current role as the editor of The Seven Network's, Sunrise and Sunday Night has seen him analyse and report upon the major health stories to have shaped this generation.
As a boy, John was educated at St. Aloysius College and later studied medicine at the University of Sydney, graduating in 1971. He received his Diploma of Obstetrics in London in 1975.
He has practiced medicine across the globe, including the Isle of Wight in United Kingdom, Qui Nhon in Vietnam where he and his wife were medical volunteers in the months preceding the fall of Saigon, and later at Goroka in Papua New Guinea before settling into family practice in Sydney.
John is the executive producer of Health Matters with Dr. John D'Arcy, a national radio program broadcast by Southern Cross Media to 33 regional radio stations throughout Australia.
He produces and presents Health Check a daily radio segment heard every weekday on over 80 metropolitan and regional stations. He also writes a weekly column for Pacific Magazines, New Idea and presents "Drive Time Medical", a bi-monthly family medicine audio training program for general practitioners throughout Australia.
John is a board member of the Australian Diabetes Council, The Institute of Immunology and Allergy Research and has ambassadorial roles with Australian Hearing, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia and The Sony Foundation,
John and his wife Wendy have been married for 38 years and have four children, one grandchild and more on the way. He struggles with gardening and golf and he says that's probably why he has grey hair.
