Getting around
Rottnest is a car-free island, but as it's only 11km from end-to-end, many visitors take the traditional two-wheel option and hire bikes to explore the island at their own pace. Bikes can be hired from Rottnest Island Bike Hire or the ferry companies.
For a more leisurely, lazy day, the Bayseeker Bus offers a hop-on hop-off beach-to-beach service. Buses depart regularly from the bus stop in Thomson Bay and timetables are posted at all stops. Purchase an all-day ticket from the visitor centre or ticket booth at the bus stop.
A complimentary Transfer Bus Service operates regularly between the bus stops in Thomson Bay, Geordie Bay, the airport and Kingstown Barracks. Timetables are posted at bus stops and are also available from the visitor centre.
Discovery Coach Tours run daily, offering a complete tour of the island with commentary exploring the island's unique history, heritage and wildlife. Bookings can be made at the visitor centre.
To suit more specific interests, there are also guided tours, personal charters and free guided walks taking in the island's historic and natural attractions. See the 'tours' section for details.
